Irth
Sunday at the Festival
IRTH (Marley IRedale and Jesse THom) are a songwriting duo from BC, Canada who draw from electronica, indie rock, jazz and r&b to weave their own style of ethereal indie pop music infused with strong melody and emotion. With two distinct styles of performance – “Beats” (dancy/sultry) and “Birds” (dreamy/listening room) – the duo creates and performs their material using an array of live instruments, as well as an arsenal of vintage gear, analog tape effects, spring verbs and dusty old tubes. The result? A unique sound that bridges earth and wire – a place where electricity meets and dances with the naked, human body. IRTH formed in the fall of 2016 when the two longtime collaborators, who had toured internationally together for 8 years with critically acclaimed folk trio Dirty Grace as well as with west-coast superband The Honey Tongues, decided to create ‘deeply fragile yet undeniably courageous’ pop music. Inspired by artists like Sigur Ros, James Blake and Aurora, IRTH seeks to bring an unprecedented vulnerability and lyrical honesty to their work, which often explores the uncontrollable chaos of authentic human relationship. With their first four singles now released by California label GYPSYPOP Records, IRTH have already begun creating a stir, performing a handful of secret shows to local audiences as well as appearing at festivals such as Woodstove, Arts Wells, Campbell Bay and the Robson Valley. With a full album release as well as more live shows to come in 2020, including a tour in Europe/UK, the duo is gearing up for an even bigger and bolder year ahead. |

Sarah Noni
Sarah Noni is a seasoned songwriter and multi-genre singer who has gathered a unique and set of tools from over 10 years in the Canadian music industry. She started out her career in 2004 with her debut release on Harry Manx’s west coast record label “Dogmycatrecords”.
On the road constantly during the year after this release, she put out her second record on the same label, with producer and good friend Corwin Fox, two years later. This album. “Daybreak mourning” earned her a nomination for “best songwriter” from the Canadian folk music awards in 2006. The following year, she received a 2nd nomination for the same album from the Canadian folk music awards for “best solo artist”, and won the award this time. Shortly after this, Sarah decided to move her life to Toronto, parted with the label and quickly began recording her 3rd album with renowned bass player and producer Maury Lafoy. This album, “Mansion of Happiness” was released with great reception in 2008. Eternally searching for new inspiration, and after a season of tours and festivals to promote the new release, Sarah accepted an invitation to showcase at Berlin’s popkomm festival. From that show she got offered a 2 month opening slot on tour with German songwriter Alin Coen. On that tour she met a company who wanted to help manage her career in Europe and so she decided to apply for a Visa and stay a while. Although the stay in Europe was meant to be temporary, it turned into 5 years. During this time, Sarah performed many festivals, toured, and studied composition in Messina, Italy. She composed the score for a feature length film, as well as several documentaries. And she wrote many songs. In 2014 she returned to Canada with her booking-agent-turned-husband and two-year-old daughter. Currently living on the west coast, she spent a couple years writing and performing with the pop due "Sky Parallel", a collaboration with violinist Sara Fitzpatrick. She is currently recording and writing new material, with lots coming down the pipes in 2020, with or without lockdown. |

Scenic Route to Alaska
Substance and accessibility. They’re often considered opposing forces when it comes to pop music, making it all the more impressive when a band like Scenic Route to Alaska so effortlessly delivers ample doses of both.
The heralded Edmonton-based indie pop trio – Trevor Mann on lead vocals and guitar, drummer Shea Connor, and bassist Murray Wood – have worked tirelessly scaling the summit of the Canadian and international music scenes. They dropped two acclaimed LPs – 2018’s Tough Luck and 2016’s Long Walk Home – that weave memorable melodies and catchy vocals through compelling, musically-rich arrangements and earned a slew of awards and accolades on their backs. They’ve toured relentlessly across North America, Europe, and Australia and have seen their global fanbase grow exponentially with each amplified chord. Since taking time to write and workshop new material earlier in 2019, Scenic Route to Alaska have released a pair of singles “Give a Little” in October 2019 and “Daydreaming” in Feb 2020 and played a nearly sold out tour throughout Canada. These singles will soon be featured on a limited edition 7" vinyl. With its release on May 6th 2020, “Call Your Friends” is the first single of their upcoming album “Time For Yourself” (release date: Aug 19th). This song is the first in the direction of revisiting their roots with a more organic, unfiltered take on their now-signature sound – or, as Mann puts it, “a truer representation of what we do when we get together and make music.” Despite the nearly non-stop touring and unwavering determination throughout their time together, the three musicians have enjoyed every step of the journey. That was especially the case with their packed 2019 hometown performance on the main stage of the world-renowned Edmonton Folk Music Festival – a definite career highlight thus far. They’ve also racked up handfuls of awards, including a SOCAN #1 distinction for the single “Love Keeps” and a Western Canadian Music Award for Best Rock Act. The recordings effortlessly capture the excitement of the band’s live performance, where the energy is palpable and the fun contagious. Always locked in with a syncopation that can only stem from a long collective history, the boys bounce from ballads to bangers with ease, leaving a lasting impression on any kind of audience in front of them. The band is perhaps best defined through dichotomy: young but mature, curious but collected, accessible but substantial. Such balance is all too rare in this scene, but thankfully, Scenic Route to Alaska strikes it with a style all their own. |

Sweet Life Society
The creaking sound of vintage vinyls is only the surface of The Sweet Life Society’s concept of sound.
This eccentric act mixes contemporary tunes with old school “Cotton Club” gems; restyling the Swing Music culture into a blend of electronic sounds, enhanced by the live performance of some of the best northern Italian Jazz instrumentalists. Swing Circus, their first album, was released on Warner Music Group in the summer 2014; it was preceded by a tour in the USA and Canada, where the act presented a special A/V show. In addition to this, The Sweet Life Society have rocked some of the most well-recognized European festivals (such as Glastonbury, Bestival, Lovebox, Wilderness, Latitude, Boomtown, Fusion Festival, Lowlands Festival, etc.) with the full seven piece live band.
